The most effective way to advertise online on the internet is to first setup a website and publish its domain name in major search directories like Google, yahoo and msn. More than 80% of users rely on these search directories to provide them with goods and services. These search engines and directories can also be termed as very large internet yellow pages.

Your website should include the generic keywords. If it does not contain the reliable and generic keywords then any one using such generic queries will not be able to discover or locate your website. Your domain name will be invisible and indiscoverable.

The ranking or search order takes place with Google and yahoo and begins with the title Meta tag. The title tag should not consist of more than 65 characters separated by commas. The title should describe in generic term the goods and services followed by location from which resource is located. The domain name which do not resemble with your title is not appropriate unless domains a reputed brand name.

For classified-type ads, personally I have had the most success with craigslist. Certain types of ads seem to work there more than others (i.e., format your ad with an image, colors, fonts, etc. rather than just plain text, and include a link to your website).

I would also recommend Google Base as a free advertising site – there are always plenty of real estate listings when I search there.

Another avenue you may want to pursue is local online advertising – sites such as Yahoo! Local, or Google Small Business Center allow you to establish profiles (with links to your site) that are searched.

One last suggestion I would make is to consider networking sites such as LinkedIn or Naymz – profiles created there are search-friendly and may help you get found more easily.

There are a lot of free ways to advertise online but the only one that I've had real results from 104inc. Visit http://www.104Ads.com or http://www.104Advertising.com and click register. Add your business and fill out your website information and you're done! They also have packages that you can upgrade to, so take a look because it's thousands less then Yellowpages.com and gave me better results. Good Luck.

Keep at it everyday (or more) online a week to see good results. People are interested when you keep them interested. If you stop advertising you lose potential sales and no one remembers you.
