You really need to get traffic for website – so I'd say 5-10% or even more would be ok. If it brings in a good rate of investment (ROI) then more, for sure. With pay per click its very easy to work out what you're paying and what its bringing in profits.
Afterall you don't advertise just because you think you ought to, there's got to be a payoff.

Definitely! The main ones are Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing, and MSN also has pay per click programs.
On each one of them, you generally get about $50 free just for signing up! The key is to choose long key words that very few people are bidding on, and set your daily budget low. That way you are only getting the people that are very interested in your product.
Once you get them to your blog, now what? Since you have someone that is interested in what you are saying, you should create a product that solves a problem they are having. Inform them about the topic, and then offer them something that can help them.

If you are building a business case and you need Advertising CPMs, I would do the following:
- Identify the type of site, content and audience you are likely to attract.
- Find sites that are comparable to the profile you have built.
- Categorize the types of pages you will build (e.g. home page, bulletin boards.
- Call/contact the sites with comparable content and ask them what CPM they would charge you to advertise on their pages.

There's lots of ways to advertise your site, from paying to asking for reciprocal links for free…but watch out for the "link farms" where you can sign up for reciprocal links and they take yours…google will not be happy.
Don't pay for search engine submission…do it yourself to only three search engines: yahoo, google and msn. All the little search engines will crawl the big guys with time. With google it may take up to six months before they recognize your site…so when you get your site, enter it into google.
Make sure your keywords match your content on each page you have on your site. meta keywords.
I've also found htmlgoodies real helpful to make yourself a site. Don't go for the "What you see is what you get" Template sites: wysiwyg If too many people have that same templet, google thinks of your site as being "spam" site.
