ok so this has been really hard for me but, i always have been suspicious of my 18 yearold brother doing drugs

today, my brother went off with his friends and my mom was taking a nap. i was walking down the hall and smelt weed. (i know what weed smells like because my mom and i went to a concert and there were people there smoking it so she told me,”if you smell something that smells like ciggarette and skunk, thats weed.” so anyway, i followed the smell. and sure enough, it led me into my brothers room. i walked over to his guitar amp which was up against the wall. i flipped it around and inside i found an empty plastic bag that smelled like weed, a lighter, and some blown glass type thing that was kind of like a vase that had some liquide inside of it that smelt like smoke. i didnt know what it was but i knew it was bad. my brother and i get along so well despite the 5 year age difference. i love him so much. i dont want him to get into trouble but i’m wondering if it’s the best choice to tell my mom what i found! i’m so scared for him but i would really like my mom to know. so should i?

At 18, he’s an adult. Weed isn’t good, but it isn’t the worst thing he could be doing. I think you should speak with him and tell him that you could smell it all over the place, so who does he think he’s kidding? People who smoke weed think they’re getting away with it, that they aren’t being smelled, so I think the best thing you can do is inject a healthy dose of paranoia. People who smoke get paranoid anyway, so that won’t be hard. Stay alert. Anytime you see bloodshot eyes or smell something on him, make a big deal out of it. “Phew! You’re really skunked, aren’t you? Did you drive like that?” I believe that you can actually do more just by harassing him than by telling your parents. Siren sounds are good, as are flashing lights.

Don’t worry about falsely accusing him. If he isn’t stoned, he’ll get paranoid if you suggest that the smell never leaves him. Ask him what he’s going to tell a cop if he gets stopped smelling like that. That’s actually more effective if he’s had a shower and put on fresh clothes. “OMG…they can still smell it?!” Well, no. But he doesn’t have to know that.
