can my ps2 play dvds in progressive scan (480p)?

I can play games like god of war 2 and guitar hero 2 in 480p, can i do the same for dvd’s? it doesnt say anything in the setup menu when i play one.
i do have the component cables hooked up for it
where in the settings when i put a movie in do i switch it to 480p since 480i is its default.

the slim ps2 can. set it for progressive scan. u have to go into a dvd then go to stop. then in the dvd settings u can change it
